Every day is Mother’s Day

Today, May 9, 2010 is my mother’s 86th birthday. A remarkable woman who has lived through remarkable times. Long may she live! I celebrate mother’s day every day that I work. Women giving birth may be God’s way of saying that the world should continue. New life in the midst of war, terrorist threats, an ever faster moving society, economic crisis. We need a little more estrogen in the world, if you ask me. Who’s asking you, you might ask? Well those children that want a chance at life are asking. When a woman, her newborn and young child leave the hospital a day early because we cannot accomodate her child due to the risk of liability, that child is asking,”Where will I sleep tonight?” Where do I belong? and to whom?

The amount of dollars that are spent on war seem so senseless. What could we be doing with that money that could bring life instead of death. My young mothers could obtain decent child care. Older mothers might have more time off to spend with the child who’s reaching for the forbidden while she cares for the sick.

So my hat is off to you young mothers like Dianna, Dorothy and Tsivia and Christina. I am humbled by the love of mothers for their children with special needs like April, Graham and Debbie. Yes, put testosterone in its place. Let us wave our bras for estrogen.
